Case study: Seven years of future management in practice

|
Client and assignment The Swiss company Mibelle AG, the largest producer of cosmetic products in Switzerland, required new future opportunities after decades of stagnation.
Goal
The management aimed at developing the company by differentiation and focussing on the future requirements to an internationally competitive player in Europe, in spite of labour costs on Swiss level, practically total dependence on one single client and non-existing foreign business.
Project content and process
- The beginning of the partnership resulted from the jointly development of a future strategy based on the Eltviller Modell for future management.
- First the expected probable developments in the environment were analyzed.
- Based on these results the internal future team and the experts of FutureManangementGroup jointly developed a series of 615 future opportunities.
- Based on the assumptions on future developments, the evaluation of these opportunities by defined criteria, and the analysis of possible strategic surprises, a long-term strategic vision of the company’s reorientation was developed.
- The strategic vision was visualized as a concrete image of a fascinating, jointly aspired and realizable future by a series of 15 individually generated drawings which are used at different places in the whole company.
- The determination of specific goals, projects and responsibilities ensured the implementation of the future strategy as the company’s path to the strategic vision.
- Within the FutureManagement-Partnership the strategic orientation as well as the achievement of strategic goals was assessed and adjusted in annual radar-workshops.
Results
- The company’s reorientation implicated a strong impetus toward expansion.
- Due to the visualization of the vision every employee, from top management to cleaning staff, knew where and what the company was supposed to develop to.
- Turnover and number of the employees doubled in seven years of future management.
- The export rate increased from close to zero to about 50 %.
- The profit increased significantly.
Client feedback
„We are successful because we apply systematic future management”, sais Dr. Sven Strunk (CEO). The collaboration with the FutureManagementGroup has contributed substantially to the rapid development of the past seven years. The powerful combination of the long-term strategic vision of the company as a whole with the short-term goals of employees as well as the regular assesment and adjustment of the strategy has been essential for the success.
